the Difference Between Living Well and Living

May 19, 2008 - Fitness Scenairo

Problem:  Lisa like most dieters often picks complicated diets that is almost impossible to maintain. Before beginning, she searches her kitchen for anything that does not fit the diet plan and throw it in the garbage. Then Lisa starts off with a goal of planning to be the perfect dieter, and so, for one day, three days, seven days, or even a couple of weeks she maintains the diet. Inevitably something happens and she cannot keep to the directions of the diet; immediately the whole diet is ruined in her eyes and its over. She goes to the grocery store and buys all the things that went into the garbage at the beginning of the diet; in turn proceeds to gain back all the weight she lost, much more rapidly.

Diagnosis: If you are this kind of dieter you need to ask yourself some tough questions. Do you really want to lose weight permanently, or just lose a few pounds so that you can enjoy putting them back on again? The way forward is to make small changes to what you eat so that you have a slow but steady weight loss...

Prescription: Setting doable goals is critical in any weight loss program. Goals should be definite, down-to-earth and set out on paper. While you likely do have an ideal weight in your mind, unless you are only very slightly overweight it’s probably too distant to be of value. A more multipurpose goal would be to lose two pounds per week for the first five weeks and then one pound per week after that. Some weeks you will lose more and some less, some weeks you may even increase, but if you track your progress on a chart you will see that ups and downs are normal and do not stop you advancing steadily toward your leading goal.

Exercise Suggestion:

Walk 10 Minutes a Day and Increase Your Fitness Level Old thinking was to work out in a sweat-filled gym for hours a day. No pain, no gain. New studies show that even short bouts of activity can increase your fitness level, especially if you're new at working out.
