Parent involvement is an issue I've had to struggle with myself in the past couple of years. As a working parent, it became really clear to me that keeping in touch with the parents of the students can be a difficult task. I think parent communication is a problem because we walk a fine line when we have students take responsibility for themselves, but they don't always communicate with their parents about what's going on at school. Parents do not want to be blindsided with homecoming dates, open house, etc., so it pays to make the effort to stay connected.
